To deepen life education among inmates and promote positive energy, Chiayi Prison, Agency of Corrections, Ministry of Justice (hereinafter referred to as "Chiayi Prison"), in collaboration with the Chinese International Association for the Promotion of Life Education for the Physically and Mentally Disabled, held a rehabilitative event titled “Igniting Hope in Life” on April 15. The event featured the Life Tribute Performing Arts Troupe, who entered the facility to show care for inmates. Through a combination of life education lectures and artistic performances, the event encouraged inmates to bravely face challenges and rekindle hope for the future.

At the outset of the event, Deputy Warden Chung Chih-Hung presented a certificate of appreciation on behalf of Chiayi Prison to Chairperson Lai Chia-Hung of the Chinese International Association for the Promotion of Life Education for the Physically and Mentally Disabled, and Chairman Liu Tian-Fu of the Republic of China Association for the Self-Reliance and Entrepreneurship of the Physically and Mentally Disabled. Their dedication to public welfare has inspired positive life values and encouraged inmates with disabilities.

Chairman Liu, who led the life education lecture, shared his personal journey from living with a disability to becoming a life education advocate. He has been committed to spreading positive values in correctional institutions, schools, and communities. His heartfelt words encouraged inmates to "overcome the suffering of incarceration with love and transform society through love." Ms. Shih Hsueh-Hung, a therapeutic watercolor artist living with rheumatoid arthritis, also shared her life story. She urged inmates to "let go" of their past mistakes in order to embark on a new path in life.

The members of the Life Tribute Performing Arts Troupe offered a heartwarming and educational performance through music, sign language, dance, and other expressive forms. Their performance brought comfort and inspiration to elderly and disabled inmates, creating an emotionally touching atmosphere.

During the event, two inmates who had received awards in the Life Literature Awards were invited to the stage to meet Chairman Liu Tian-Fu, receive special publications of the awards, and share their personal growth journeys. Their stories not only received enthusiastic applause but also inspired other inmates to reflect on their future and explore new directions for their lives.

Chiayi Prison stated that elderly and disabled inmates often face both physical and mental challenges during incarceration. Therefore, the prison actively promotes diverse rehabilitative programs such as life education, art therapy, and vocational training to help them build self-confidence and enhance their ability to reintegrate into society. Chiayi Prison expressed gratitude to the Chinese International Association for the Promotion of Life Education for the Physically and Mentally Disabled and the Life Tribute Performing Arts Troupe for their support. This event not only brought enlightenment to the inmates but also allowed them to feel the warmth and care of society.
