On October 30, 2025, the Chiayi Learning Guidance Center of the National Open University (NOU) visited the Chiayi Prison under the Agency of Corrections, Ministry of Justice, co-hosting a heartwarming Teacher-Student Fellowship Event. The occasion was not only a showcase of educational achievements but also a profound exchange of hearts and minds. Within the high walls, teachers and students connected through songs, conversations, and smiles, building bridges of understanding and care that allowed enthusiasm for learning and human warmth to blossom on a pleasant autumn afternoon.

During the award ceremony, eighteen students received Certificates of Academic Excellence and prizes. As each awardee stepped onto the stage, the NOU faculty applauded enthusiastically and offered words of encouragement and affirmation. The recipients expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying that the recognition from their teachers was the greatest motivation to persist in their studies. Despite many constraints, they realized that with determination, education could help them find a renewed direction in life. This interaction not only allowed the students to feel valued and respected but also deepened the teachers’ appreciation of education’s profound role in rehabilitation.

The performance segment opened with the Chiayi Prison Talent Class Choir, “Xinyue Choir,” delivering pure and touching renditions of “Contentment” and “Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies.” The audience, composed of NOU faculty and students, was moved by the warm and uplifting atmosphere. Following this, the “Little Crewcut Band” took the stage with lively rhythms and bright melodies, their music echoing through the hall as a symbol of freedom and hope. These performances showcased artistic talent while also creating invisible bonds of encouragement between teachers and students through music.

Chiayi Prison stated that this fellowship event was more than a simple exchange—it represented an essential integration of education and emotional connection. Through face-to-face interaction, the inmates felt genuine care and encouragement from the outside world, which helps them maintain a positive attitude and cultivate sound self-management skills during their incarceration. This gathering demonstrated that even when walls divide, the spirit of renewal and hope can still connect hearts. Education makes transformation possible—and brings minds and souls together.
